4 The rest of the trip — optional, and usually forgotten

Implant treatment is normally two trips, months apart — the surgery, then the crown once it has healed. Almost every price comparison you will read leaves this out, which is what makes treatment abroad look cheaper than it is. Use your own figures; we do not guess at flight prices.

Before you pay a deposit, put part of it on a credit card

Under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974, a UK credit card issuer is jointly liable with the supplier for breach of contract or misrepresentation — and the courts have held that this reaches purchases made abroad. In plain terms: if the clinic fails to deliver what it promised, you can claim against your UK card company instead of suing a business in another country.

It must be a credit card, not a debit card. Debit cards have chargeback, which is a weaker and shorter-lived protection.
The item must cost over £100 and no more than £30,000. Most implant work sits inside that.
Paying part of it is enough. Put the deposit on the card and the protection can extend to the whole contract price.
Pay the clinic directly. Paying an agent or a third party in between can break the chain the protection depends on.
